A birthday reflection for my granddaughters fifteenth birthday. She amazes us everyday. I know the path she walks is a difficult one but she does it with grace. I can’t wait to see where she goes in life.
Autism and stimming - keep calm and stim on!
Well meaning adults think telling someone on the spectrum to take a deep breath when they appear upset is helpful. While that might work for some, for others it is not helpful at all. There are many ways to cope (and stim).
The Emotional Rollercoaster that is Autism Spectrum Disorder
Being a grandparent to a child on the autism spectrum can be an emotional rollercoaster. You mourn the life you wanted for them, but also marvel in the life that they can have. Looking at life through my autistic granddaughter’s eyes has given me new perspective on what life is.
What I worry about…
A nana’s worry about her granddaughter with autism entering the workforce. Will she be discriminated against for having autism? Will she even be able to get through the interview process?
